One of the most common questions we are asked is how long a professional surface repair will last. The honest answer is: it depends on the material, the quality of the repair, and how the surface is maintained. Here is a straightforward guide.

The Factors That Affect Longevity

Quality of the repair — the most important factor. A repair carried out with professional-grade materials, proper surface preparation and precise colour matching will last significantly longer than a DIY repair. Professional repairs on most hard surfaces will last five to ten years or more without any visible deterioration.
The material — harder, denser materials such as granite, quartz and enamel hold repairs well. More flexible materials such as acrylic can flex slightly in use, which can eventually stress the repair at its edges.
Location of the damage — a repair on a flat surface that does not sustain repeated impact will last longer than one at a corner or edge that continues to take knocks.
Maintenance — harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive cleaning pads and heavy-handed scrubbing will shorten the life of a repair. Standard household cleaners and soft cloths will not affect a well-executed professional repair.

Typical Lifespans by Material

Granite and quartz chip repair — 10+ years under normal conditions.
Enamel bath chip repair — 5–10 years under normal conditions.
Acrylic bath repair — 3–8 years, depending on the flexibility of the bath and the conditions.
LVT floor repair — 5–10 years under normal footfall.
Composite door repair — 5–10 years depending on exposure and maintenance.
