Bath resurfacing — also called bath reglazing, bath refinishing or bath recoating — is the process of applying a new coating to the entire surface of an existing bath. It transforms a yellowed, worn or damaged bath into one that looks brand new, at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
What Bath Resurfacing Involves
1. Preparation — the bath is thoroughly cleaned to remove all soap scum, limescale and contamination. Any chips or cracks in the surface are repaired before coating begins.
2. Masking — the surrounding tiling, floor and bathroom fittings are carefully masked to protect against overspray.
3. Priming — a specialist primer is applied to ensure adhesion of the topcoat to the existing bath surface.
4. Coating — two coats of the chosen colour are applied using professional spray equipment. The finish is smooth, even and factory-quality.
5. Curing — the coating is allowed to cure for the required period before use.
How Long Does It Take?
Bath resurfacing typically takes 3-4 hours on-site. The bath should not be used for 24 hours after resurfacing to allow the coating to fully cure.
Colour Options
The most common choice is white or off-white to match the original colour. However, bath resurfacing can also be used to change the colour of a bath — from avocado to white, for example, or from white to a contemporary grey.
Cost
Full bath resurfacing: £250–£450. Replacement: £500–£1,500+. The saving is significant. Send photos for a fixed price.
