Powder coating is a durable factory-applied finish used on steel and aluminium for window frames, door frames, shopfronts, furniture, radiators and many other applications. When powder coating chips or scratches, professional touch-up repair is possible in most cases.
What Is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a dry finishing process — electrostatically applied powder is cured under heat to create a hard, durable finish. It is more resistant to chipping and scratching than liquid paint, but damage does occur from impact and abrasion.
What Powder Coat Damage Can Be Repaired?
Chips — impact chips in powder coated surfaces are filled with colour-matched touch-up compound and polished.
Scratches — surface scratches in the coating layer. Polished or filled depending on depth.
Corrosion spots — where a chip has allowed rust to develop on steel substrate. Rust treated and then repaired.
Colour Matching
Powder coating comes in thousands of RAL and BS colours. We carry touch-up compounds for the most common colours and can mix for unusual shades. The powder coat finish (smooth, textured, metallic) is replicated as closely as possible.
Limitations
Powder coat touch-up repair creates a localised repair that matches the surrounding surface closely but may not be completely invisible under very close inspection due to the difference in application method. For large damaged areas, recoating the full component is a better option.
Cost
A single powder coat chip repair: £85–£175. Send photos for a fixed price.
