Scratches on quartz worktops range from very fine surface marks that may be polishable to deeper scratches that require professional filling. Here is a guide to what can be done at home and when professional help is needed.

Fine Surface Scratches

Very fine surface scratches on quartz — from fine grit, a wire sponge or fine particles — may be improvable using a quartz-specific polishing compound. Apply in circular motions with a soft cloth, working the affected area progressively.

Results: fine scratches may become less visible. Deeper scratches will not be significantly improved by polishing.
Important: do not use abrasive household cleaners or standard car polish on quartz. These may contain abrasives or chemicals that are not suitable for quartz surfaces.

Deeper Scratches

Scratches that have penetrated the surface layer of the quartz require professional attention. They cannot be polished out — the material needs to be filled.

Professional Scratch Repair

A professional technician assesses the scratch depth, selects the appropriate approach (polishing or filling), and carries out the repair. A colour-matched filler applied to a deeper scratch, finished and polished, typically achieves a very good result.

Prevention

Use chopping boards. Never cut directly on quartz. Keep the surface free from grit. Avoid dragging heavy or abrasive objects across the surface.
