Scratched glass — on shower screens, mirrors, glass splashbacks and decorative glass panels — can often be improved or repaired professionally. Here is an honest guide to what is achievable.
Surface Scratches on Glass
Fine surface scratches on glass can be polished using specialist glass polishing compounds applied with a rotary polisher. This technique removes the scratched surface layer, revealing the undamaged glass beneath.
What this achieves: significant improvement or elimination of fine scratches. Results depend on the depth and number of scratches.
Limitation: glass polishing removes material. On toughened safety glass, excessive polishing can reduce the strength of the glass. We apply this technique conservatively.
Deeper Scratches
Scratches that penetrate more than 0.1mm into the glass surface cannot be polished out. These may be improvable but not fully eliminable.
Chips and Edge Damage
Edge chips on glass shower screens are repairable using UV-cure glass repair resin. The void is filled, cured under UV light and polished flush. Results are typically very good on small chips.
Scratched Glass Hob Repair
Scratched ceramic/glass hobs are a specific category. Very fine scratches may be improvable with ceramic polishing compound. Deep scratches on glass hobs are generally not repairable.
