A chipped quartz worktop is one of the most common surface repair requests we receive. It is also one of the most fixable — professional quartz chip repair achieves invisible results on most standard quartz colours, at a fraction of the cost of worktop replacement.
This guide covers everything: why quartz chips, what the repair involves, which brands we repair, how much it costs, and what to expect.
Why Does Quartz Chip?
Quartz worktops are engineered stone — natural quartz particles bound together with polymer resin. They are extremely hard and scratch-resistant, but the resin binder is slightly more brittle at exposed edges than solid natural stone. This means quartz is more susceptible to edge and corner chipping than it is to surface scratching.
The most vulnerable points are:
Front corners — the unsupported corner of a worktop, particularly on kitchen islands with seating, sustains repeated impact from chairs and people leaning against it.
Front edges — the full-length front edge of the worktop takes daily impact from stools, hip contact, pans and kitchen activity.
Sink and hob cutouts — the corners of cutout apertures are stress concentration points. A crack or chip here is common and can propagate if not addressed.
The edge profile also matters. A square-edge profile (the most popular in the UK) has no chamfer to protect the edge and chips more readily than a pencil-round or bullnose profile.
The Professional Repair Process
Colour matching — the first and most important step. The technician observes the quartz in natural light and selects the closest compound from a comprehensive library. For standard colours — white, grey, black, concrete effect — a very close match is usually available. For complex sparkle designs or unusual colours, custom mixing is required.
Preparation — the chip is cleaned and any loose aggregate removed. The surrounding surface is lightly abraded where needed.
Layered application — the compound is applied in thin layers. This is important: a single thick application shrinks as it cures and results in a sunken repair. Multiple thin layers build up without shrinkage.
Shaping and polishing — once cured, the repair is shaped flush using graded abrasives and polished to match the surrounding quartz finish.
Which Quartz Brands Do We Repair?
We carry compounds for all major quartz brands in the UK including:
Silestone (all collections including Eternal, Silestone White, Cemento series), Caesarstone (all collections), Dekton (sintered stone — specialist approach), Quartz Master (all colours), Compac, Quartzforms, HanStone, Technistone, and all own-brand quartz from IKEA, Howdens, Wren, Wickes, Magnet, B&Q and other kitchen retailers.
For unusual or limited-edition colours, we may need to custom-mix — send photos and we will confirm capability before quoting.
How Much Does Quartz Chip Repair Cost?
- Single chip repair: £95–£200
- Corner chip (larger): £150–£250
- Crack at sink or hob cutout: £125–£275
- Multiple chips in one visit: reduced rate for additional items
For comparison, quartz worktop replacement costs £800–£4,000+ depending on the size of the kitchen and the brand, plus fitting and any associated tiling costs. A chip repair at £95–£200 represents a 95%+ saving.
What Results Can You Expect?
On plain white, grey and black quartz — by far the most common UK kitchen worktop colours — professional repair is invisible at normal viewing distance. The colour match on consistent, well-documented quartz colours is very accurate.
On sparkle quartz (containing glass crystal aggregate), results are very good — our technicians carry glass aggregate in a range of particle sizes to replicate the sparkle effect through the repair area.
On marble-effect quartz with bold veining, the veining is continued through the repair area using fine brush technique. The result is convincing at normal viewing distance.
On very unusual or complex quartz designs, we will give you a realistic expectation before proceeding. We always discuss this honestly — we will not carry out a repair we do not expect to achieve a good result on.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is quartz chip repair permanent?
A professional quartz repair using two-component epoxy compounds typically lasts 8–12 years under normal conditions. Using appropriate stone cleaners (not bleach or acidic products) extends this further.
Can Dekton be repaired?
Yes, though Dekton (sintered stone) is one of the harder materials to repair. The extreme hardness requires specialist approach. We recommend sending photos for assessment before committing to a Dekton repair visit.
Should I repair a quartz chip myself?
DIY repair kits do not achieve good results on quartz. The colour matching challenge is significant — quartz comes in hundreds of colours and a kit’s range cannot match your specific surface. Professional repair is the only approach that achieves an invisible result.
