Blanco Silgranit is the UK’s most popular composite granite sink material — widely fitted in new kitchens and available in a range of colours that complement contemporary kitchen aesthetics. When a Silgranit sink chips, professional repair restores it invisibly in a single visit.
What Is Blanco Silgranit?
Silgranit is Blanco’s proprietary composite granite material — made from approximately 80% granite particles bound in an acrylic resin matrix. It was one of the first composite granite sink materials to achieve widespread adoption in the UK market and remains the benchmark against which other composite sinks are measured.
Silgranit is extremely hard (harder than steel), heat-resistant to 280°C, and non-porous. Its texture — a slightly matte, stone-like surface — is distinctive and well-known to kitchen designers across the UK.
Which Silgranit Colours Can Be Repaired?
We carry compounds for the complete current and recent Silgranit colour range including:
Anthracite — the most popular current Silgranit colour. Deep charcoal grey. Very straightforward to repair.
White — clean bright white. One of the easier Silgranit colours to match accurately.
Jasmine — warm off-white/cream. Matchable from our extensive white-to-cream range.
Café Brown — rich brown tone. Good match achievable.
Champagne — warm gold-beige. Matchable.
Silgranit Metallic Grey — the classic mid-grey. Very commonly repaired.
Black — deep black. Straightforward repair.
Rock Grey — mid-tone warm grey. Good results.
For discontinued Silgranit colours, we work from the physical colour in front of us — send photos and we will confirm capability.
How Does the Repair Work on Silgranit?
Silgranit’s composite structure means repair compounds must match both the colour and the slightly textured, matte surface quality of the original material. This is different from repairing a polished stone worktop — the finish matching requires specific technique.
After colour matching and application of the repair compound in layers, the repair is textured and finished to replicate the natural stone quality of the Silgranit surface. The result on standard Silgranit colours is typically invisible at normal viewing distance.
Where Do Silgranit Sinks Chip Most Often?
Rim — the most common location. Items dropped into the sink land on the rim. The front rim corners are particularly vulnerable.
Tap holes — chips around the tap hole apertures, particularly when taps have been changed.
Bowl base — from heavy pots and pans dropped into the bowl.
How Much Does Silgranit Repair Cost?
- Single chip repair: £85–£165
- 2–3 chips in one visit: £155–£265
- Tap hole damage: £95–£175
Compare to a new Blanco Silgranit sink: £180–£450 for the sink itself, plus fitting and plumbing costs (£100–£250). Total replacement: £280–£700. A chip repair saves 75–90%.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Silgranit really chip-resistant as advertised?
Silgranit is highly impact-resistant for its material category. However, no composite material is chip-proof under sufficient impact force. A heavy cast iron pan dropped from height will chip any composite sink.
My Silgranit sink is 10 years old — can it still be repaired?
Yes. There is no age limit on repair. An older sink may have accumulated surface wear and slight colour change — we match the aged colour as it exists today.
The chip is right at the front rim where I see it every day — will the repair really be invisible?
On standard Silgranit colours, yes — at normal viewing distance. We will give you a realistic expectation for your specific colour before proceeding.
