A cracked tile is one of those repairs that homeowners often assume requires full tile replacement — with all the disruption and risk of mismatching that involves. In most cases, a cracked tile can be repaired professionally, invisibly and at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Why Repair Rather Than Replace?

Tile replacement sounds straightforward but carries real risks:

Matching — tiles from a few years ago may no longer be available. Even if the same range is still manufactured, colour and texture can vary between production batches.
Disruption — removing a cracked tile risks cracking adjacent tiles. The grout around the replacement tile needs to be matched to existing grout.

How Tile Crack Repair Works

Assessment — the technician assesses the crack: its width, depth, cause and whether it is still moving. A crack caused by structural movement (the building settling, for example) will continue to open if not addressed at source.
Stabilisation — for stable cracks, the crack is cleaned and a flexible filler compound applied. For active cracks, addressing the underlying cause is necessary before repair.
Filling — the crack is filled with a colour-matched compound that bonds to both sides.

Can All Cracks Be Repaired?
