Bath repair and bath resurfacing are two different services that address different conditions. Choosing between them depends on the extent of the damage, the overall condition of the bath, and your budget.
Bath Repair
Bath repair — also called chip repair or crack repair — addresses localised damage. A single chip, a crack, or a small number of chips on an otherwise sound and presentable bath.
When repair is right:
- The bath surface is generally in good condition
- The damage is localised — one or two chips or a single crack
- The bath colour is still bright and consistent
- You want a fast, economical fix
What to expect: The damaged area is addressed and the repair is invisible or near-invisible. The rest of the bath is unchanged. Cost: £85–£175 for a single chip.
Bath Resurfacing
Bath resurfacing — also called bath reglazing or bath refinishing — addresses the entire surface of the bath. The whole surface is cleaned, prepared, any damage repaired, and a new coating applied.
When resurfacing is right:
- The bath surface is generally tired — yellowed, heavily scratched, multiple chips
- You want to change the colour of the bath
- Repair alone would leave an inconsistent surface between the repair and the surrounding worn finish
- You want a like-new result across the whole bath
What to expect: The bath looks brand new. The colour is consistent across the entire surface. Cost: £250–£450.
The Bottom Line
If your bath has one or two chips but is otherwise presentable — repair. If it is generally tired, yellowed or has multiple chips — resurfacing is better value.
