Regular inspection of bathroom surfaces allows early identification and repair of damage — which is always easier and cheaper than addressing long-neglected problems.

Annual Bathroom Surface Inspection Checklist

Bath

  • [ ] Inspect the rim for chips — run your finger along the full rim
  • [ ] Check the floor of the bath for chips from dropped items
  • [ ] Check the surface for scratches and dullness
  • [ ] Check the panel for impact damage
  • [ ] Inspect the mastic seal — is it intact, white and mould-free?

Shower

  • [ ] Check the tray for chips, particularly around the drain and entry edge
  • [ ] Check the tray for cracks
  • [ ] Check the enclosure frame for chips and scratches
  • [ ] Inspect the mastic seal around the tray

Tiles

  • [ ] Systematically check all wall tiles for chips and cracks
  • [ ] Check floor tiles for chips at corners and grout lines
  • [ ] Check grout condition — is it intact and clean?

Basin

  • [ ] Inspect the rim and bowl for chips
  • [ ] Check around tap holes

General

  • [ ] Check floor for scratches and chips
  • [ ] Check door for chips and scratches

When to Repair

Address damage as soon as it is identified. A fresh chip is easier to repair and gives better results than one that has accumulated staining. Failing mastic should be replaced before water ingress causes damage behind the tiles.
