A chipped worktop can be repaired in several ways — from DIY repair kits to professional on-site repair. Here is an honest assessment of what each approach achieves.
Option 1 — DIY Repair Kit
DIY worktop repair kits are available from hardware stores and online for £10–£30. They typically include a basic filler and a limited range of colours.
Best for: very small chips on plain, easily matched surfaces where an imperfect result is acceptable.
Limitations: colour range is very limited. Matching granite patterns, quartz aggregates or complex laminate designs is essentially impossible. Results are often visible and can draw more attention to the repair than the original chip.
Risk: a poorly applied DIY repair can make subsequent professional repair harder.
Option 2 — Professional On-Site Repair
A professional technician attends your property, mixes a colour-matched compound from a comprehensive library, fills the chip, shapes it flush and polishes it to match the surrounding surface finish.
Best for: all chip types on all worktop materials. Provides the best possible result.
Result: invisible or near-invisible under normal viewing conditions.
Cost: £95–£250 depending on material and damage extent.
Our Recommendation
For any chip on a coloured or patterned surface — granite, quartz, marble, patterned laminate — professional repair is the only option that achieves a genuinely good result. For a very small chip on plain white laminate, a DIY kit is a reasonable temporary measure.
