What Is Blanco Silgranit?

Silgranit is Blanco’s proprietary composite granite material — made from approximately 80% granite particles bound in an acrylic resin matrix. It was one of the first composite granite sink materials to achieve widespread adoption in the UK market and remains the benchmark against which other composite sinks are measured.

Silgranit is extremely hard (harder than steel), heat-resistant to 280°C, and non-porous. Its texture — a slightly matte, stone-like surface — is distinctive and well-known to kitchen designers across the UK.

How Does the Repair Work on Silgranit?

Silgranit’s composite structure means repair compounds must match both the colour and the slightly textured, matte surface quality of the original material. This is different from repairing a polished stone worktop — the finish matching requires specific technique.

After colour matching and application of the repair compound in layers, the repair is textured and finished to replicate the natural stone quality of the Silgranit surface. The result on standard Silgranit colours is typically invisible at normal viewing distance.

Where Do Silgranit Sinks Chip Most Often?

Rim — the most common location. Items dropped into the sink land on the rim. The front rim corners are particularly vulnerable.
