Full floor sanding is expensive, disruptive and removes material from the floor every time it is done — solid hardwood can only be sanded a limited number of times. For localised scratches and chips, professional spot repair addresses the specific damage without affecting the rest of the floor.
When Spot Repair Is the Right Choice
Spot repair is appropriate when:
- The damage is localised to one area or a small number of boards
- The rest of the floor is in good condition
- You want to avoid the cost and disruption of full sanding
- The floor has already been sanded and cannot sustain further sanding
The Spot Repair Process
The scratched area is carefully prepared. A colour-matched wood filler or resin compound is applied in the scratch, shaped flush with the surrounding surface, and finished to replicate the original floor finish — lacquered, oiled, brushed, distressed or waxed.
The colour matching process involves matching both the wood species colour and the stain or finish applied to the floor.
