When repairing natural stone, engineered quartz or any other surface with a specific finish — polished, honed, brushed or leathered — matching the finish of the repair to the surrounding surface is as important as matching the colour.
Polished Surfaces
Polished stone and quartz have a high-gloss mirror finish. Repair compounds applied to a polished surface must be polished to the same gloss level — any reduction in sheen at the repair area is immediately visible.
We use progressive polishing through graded compounds and polishing pads to achieve the same gloss level as the surrounding surface.
Honed Surfaces
Honed stone has a matte or low-sheen finish. The repair compound is finished to the appropriate matte level using fine abrasives rather than polishing compounds.
Honed surfaces are actually often easier to repair invisibly than polished — the lack of high gloss means variations in sheen level are less obvious.
Brushed and Leathered Finishes
Brushed and leathered stone finishes have a deliberate texture. Replicating this texture through the repair area requires additional technique — directional finishing using appropriate tools to replicate the original texture character.
Our Approach
We assess the surface finish carefully before beginning any repair and select finishing technique accordingly. We do not begin a repair until we are confident we can match both colour and finish.
