The front face and corners of a quartz slab are unsupported from beneath and subject to daily impact from chairs, kitchen equipment, and general activity. Why Quartz Edges Chip
Quartz is harder than granite in terms of scratch resistance, but the resin binder that holds the quartz particles together is slightly less resistant to impact at exposed edges. A sharp impact — a chair leg, a heavy pan, a child’s toy — can fracture the edge, leaving a clean or irregular void.
The geometry of the edge profile also affects vulnerability. Square-edge profiles (the most popular) have no protective chamfer and chip more easily than pencil-round or bullnose profiles.

Pencil round — slightly chamfered. Chips filled and the radius maintained.
Bullnose — fully rounded front edge. More complex to shape but achievable.
Bevelled and ogee profiles — require more careful shaping but are within professional repair capability.
What Results to Expect
On most quartz colours, an edge repair is invisible or near-invisible from a standing viewing distance. On very close inspection the repair may be detectable, but under normal viewing conditions the result is excellent.
