What Is a Composite Door Made Of?
Most composite doors have a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) outer skin over a polyurethane foam core. The GRP skin is moulded to replicate a wood grain or smooth texture and then painted in the chosen colour. It is the GRP skin that sustains most chip and scratch damage.
What Damage Can Be Repaired?
Chips — the most common damage type. Impact from tools, vehicles, bicycles, or general use creates a void in the GRP skin. Filled with colour-matched compound, shaped and polished.
Scratches — deep scratches in the GRP skin or paint layer. Colour-matched and polished.
Larger impact areas — more extensive GRP damage from significant impact. Repairable in most cases using composite repair techniques.
Fading — a composite door that has faded in UV can be resprayed in the original colour or a new colour.
