Yes — a chipped quartz worktop can be repaired professionally in almost every case. Engineered quartz is one of the most repairable worktop materials, and the results are typically excellent.

What Is Quartz and Why Does It Chip?

Engineered quartz worktops (sold under brand names including Silestone, Caesarstone, Compac and others) are made from approximately 90–95% crushed quartz bound with a polymer resin. They are extremely hard, non-porous and highly resistant to scratching — but the hardness that makes them durable also makes them brittle under sudden impact.

The edges and corners of quartz worktops are the most vulnerable points. A dropped pan or tool can cause a chip that exposes the raw quartz beneath the polished surface. Chips near the sink cutout and around the hob are particularly common.

How Quartz Repair Works

The repair process for quartz follows the same principles as natural stone repair:

1. The damaged area is cleaned and prepared
2. A colour-matched resin compound is mixed to replicate the specific quartz colour and pattern
3. The resin is applied in layers and cured
4. The repair is shaped flush with the surface and polished to match the original finish

Quartz has an advantage over natural stone for repair: its composition is consistent throughout (unlike granite, which has mineral variation that needs to be replicated). This makes colour matching more predictable, particularly on plain or lightly patterned quartz.

What About Quartz with Veining Effects?

Many modern quartz products are designed to replicate the look of marble, with white or grey base colours and dark veining running through the surface. These are more challenging to repair because the veining pattern needs to be replicated around the repair area.

Experienced technicians can hand-draw veining into the repair using fine pigment tools. On heavily veined quartz, the repair boundary may be detectable under very close inspection, but is not visible at normal viewing distance.

How Much Does Quartz Chip Repair Cost?

A single quartz chip repair typically costs £100–£250. The price depends on the size of the chip, the complexity of the pattern and the number of repairs in the same visit.

This compares to £800–£3,000 or more for quartz worktop replacement.
