Timber kitchen worktops — solid oak, walnut, beech, maple and other hardwoods — are warm, characterful and popular in both traditional and contemporary kitchens. They are also repairable when chipped, burned or scratched.

Types of Timber Worktop Damage

Burns — the most common type. Timber worktops are vulnerable to heat damage from hot pans and appliances. Burns leave charred, discoloured wood. The damaged area is cut back, treated and filled with colour-matched wood compound.
Chips and gouges — from impact with hard or heavy objects. Filled with colour-matched filler and finished to replicate the grain.
Scratches — the most minor type. Fine scratches can often be sanded out with fine abrasive and refinished with matching oil or lacquer.
Water damage — timber worktops are vulnerable to water damage at seams and around the sink. Swollen or blackened wood can be treated and refinished.

Finishing Matches

Timber worktops are typically oiled, lacquered or waxed. The finish must be matched in the repair area. We carry oils and finishing compounds for the most common timber worktop finishes.
