Integrated sink worktops — where the sink and worktop are formed from a single continuous piece of material — are popular in high-end kitchens. When they chip or crack, the seamless nature of the surface means repair is particularly important — there is no joint to disguise damage behind.
Types of Integrated Sink Worktop
Corian and solid surface — the most common type. A single moulded piece of acrylic-mineral composite. Very repairable — chips and cracks can be repaired seamlessly due to the homogeneous material.
Stone integrated worktops — where the sink bowl is carved from a stone slab. Less common. Chip repair using stone repair compounds.
Composite integrated worktops — composite granite formed into a single piece including the sink bowl.
Common Damage Points
The edge of the sink bowl where it meets the flat worktop surface is the most vulnerable point — the transition from horizontal to curved concentrates stress at this point.
