Karndean is the UK’s most popular premium LVT flooring brand — installed in millions of homes and commercial properties across the country. When a Karndean floor sustains a chip or scratch, professional repair addresses the damage precisely without removing or replacing the affected plank.
What Is Karndean?
Karndean is luxury vinyl tile — a multi-layer synthetic floor covering with a photographic design layer protected by a hard wear layer. The design layer realistically replicates wood, stone and abstract effects. The wear layer — 0.55mm in Korlok and 0.7mm in Signature designs — protects the design from scratching and wear.
Karndean is dimensionally stable, 100% waterproof and warm underfoot — which explains its dominance in UK kitchen, bathroom and hallway floors.
Can Karndean Be Repaired Without Replacing the Plank?
Yes. This is the key point that many Karndean owners do not realise. The standard advice when LVT is damaged is to source a replacement plank, lift the floor back to the affected plank and replace it. This is disruptive, often impossible (the plank design may be discontinued), and usually unnecessary.
Professional LVT repair fills the chip or scratch with colour-matched compound, finishing it to match the texture and sheen of the surrounding Karndean design. The repair is completed in 1–2 hours without touching the surrounding floor.
Which Karndean Collections Do We Repair?
We work with all current and recent Karndean collections:
Knight Tile — Karndean’s tile-format LVT range. Stone and ceramic effects. Widely used in kitchens and bathrooms. The stone designs are among the most straightforward LVT to repair — the varied surface texture helps conceal repair boundaries.
Van Gogh — wood plank format. Realistic wood grain and texture. Repair requires matching the grain direction through the repair area.
Da Vinci — longer and wider plank format. Oak, ash and other species.
Korlok — rigid core LVT. The same repair techniques apply.
Opus and Karndean Design Flooring — commercial ranges. Repairable using the same approach.
How Does LVT Chip Repair Work?
LVT repair is different from stone repair — the material is softer and the surface has a specific texture that must be replicated.
Colour matching — Karndean’s documented colour range helps here. We carry compounds matched to standard Karndean collections. For unusual or limited edition designs, custom mixing is required.
Application — colour-matched acrylic compound applied to the chip in layers.
Texture matching — the key differentiator between professional and DIY repair. The surface texture of the Karndean design — whether smooth stone effect, wood grain or abstract — must be replicated in the repair finish.
Sealing — the repair is sealed to match the surrounding floor finish.
How Much Does Karndean Repair Cost?
- Single chip repair: £75–£150
- Scratch repair: £75–£125
- Multiple repairs in one visit: reduced rate
Compare to the disruption and cost of plank replacement — sourcing a matching plank, lifting the floor from the edge back to the affected area, replacing the plank, re-laying the rest. Professional repair at £75–£150 is a much better option in most cases.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Karndean design is discontinued — can you still repair it?
Yes. We match from the physical floor colour in front of us, not from the product catalogue. Discontinued designs are within our repair capability.
Can you repair Karndean in a bathroom or wet room?
Yes. LVT is 100% waterproof and our repair materials are equally waterproof once cured.
The chip is near the middle of the room — can you access it without lifting the whole floor?
Yes. This is the point of professional repair — we access the chip directly without disturbing any other part of the floor.
How long does repair take?
Typically 1–2 hours for a single chip.
