Bathroom mirror damage — chips at the edge, cracks across the glass, or damage to the mirror frame — is repairable professionally in some cases. Here is an honest assessment of what can be achieved.
Glass Mirror Chips
Edge chips on glass mirrors are repairable using specialist glass repair resin. The resin fills the void, is cured using UV light, and polished flush. Results on small edge chips are very good. Larger chips or chips in the face of the mirror are more challenging.
Mirror Cracks
A crack running across a mirror is more difficult to repair invisibly than a chip. The crack can be filled and sealed to prevent propagation, but the crack line will typically remain visible. Replacement of a cracked mirror is usually more practical.
Mirror Frame Repair
Many bathroom mirrors have decorative frames — timber, MDF, composite or metal. Chips and scratches in mirror frames are repairable using the same techniques as furniture and door repair.
Chrome and Backlit Mirror Frames
Illuminated mirrors with chrome or aluminium frames can sustain chip damage to the frame. Frame chip repair using colour-matched metal touch-up compound.
