Fire doors are critical safety elements in commercial and residential buildings. Surface damage — chips, scratches and impact marks — affects their appearance but does not necessarily affect their fire resistance. Professional surface repair addresses the cosmetic damage while preserving the door’s fire protection function.
What Fire Door Surface Repair Covers
We carry out surface repair on the external faces of fire doors — the chips, scratches and impact marks that affect appearance. This is cosmetic work on the door’s outer skin, not structural repair.
Surface repair does not involve:
- Any work on the door core or structure
- Intumescent seals or smoke seals
- Door hardware, hinges or closers
What We Do Not Do
We do not repair structural fire door damage — holes, cracks in the core, or any damage that could affect the door’s fire resistance rating. If structural damage is identified during our assessment, we advise the building manager and recommend specialist fire door inspection.
Important Note on Compliance
Fire door repairs that affect the structure or core of the door can invalidate the fire resistance certification. Surface-only repair by an experienced technician does not affect fire resistance. If there is any doubt, the door should be inspected by a certificated fire door inspector.
Cost
Fire door surface chip or scratch repair: £100–£250. Send photos for assessment.
