Can a Scratched Floor Be Repaired?

A scratched floor is one of the most disheartening types of surface damage — particularly on an expensive hardwood or LVT floor. The good news is that most scratched floors can be repaired professionally without sanding the whole floor or replacing boards.

Hardwood and Engineered Wood Floors

Fine scratches — a cluster of fine scratches in a hardwood floor can often be polished out using appropriate buffing techniques on the affected area only.
Deeper scratches — individual deep scratches are filled with colour-matched wood filler or wax compound and polished flush. On well-matched repairs, the scratch becomes invisible or near-invisible.
Gouges — larger areas of damage require more extensive filling. Results are still very good on most wood species and stains.

LVT Floors (Karndean, Amtico)

LVT scratches are filled with colour-matched acrylic compound. The result is typically very good on deeper wood effect designs — the texture variation helps to disguise the repair. On plain stone effect LVT, results are also good.

Laminate Floors

Laminate scratches are filled with colour-matched repair sticks or compounds. The photographic surface of laminate makes invisible repair more challenging on complex patterns, but very good results are achievable on most standard designs.

Stone Floors

Fine scratches on polished stone can often be polished out. Deeper scratches are filled with colour-matched compound.
