Yes — a burned laminate worktop can be repaired professionally in most cases. Here is what the repair involves and what results to expect.

What Causes Laminate Worktop Burns

Laminate worktops are made from a decorative paper layer impregnated with melamine resin, bonded to a particle board core. The melamine surface is heat-resistant to a point — but direct contact with hot pans, baking trays or styling appliances causes the surface to blister, discolour or char.

The most common burn locations are near the hob and near the kettle, where hot items are regularly placed.

What the Repair Involves

The burned area is cut back to sound material. If the particle board core is affected, it is consolidated before the repair proceeds. The void is filled with colour-matched compound in layers, shaped flush with the surrounding surface and polished to match the laminate finish.

On plain laminates (white, black, grey), results are typically very good. On wood effect laminates, the grain direction is replicated through the repair. On very complex or highly patterned laminates, results are good but a faint trace of the repair may be visible at very close range.

Cost

A single laminate worktop burn repair typically costs £85–£175. This compares to £300–£1,500 for worktop replacement. Send photos for a fixed price.
