The quickest way to get an accurate surface repair quote is to send us clear photographs. Here is how to take photos that give us everything we need to assess the damage and provide a fixed price.

Equipment

A modern smartphone camera is all you need. You do not need specialist photography equipment.

Lighting

Good lighting is the most important factor. Natural daylight is ideal. If photographing indoors, position yourself so the light falls across the damage from the side — this is called raking light and it makes the depth and extent of damage much more visible.

Avoid using flash directly on the damage — it flattens the image and hides depth.

Distance and Angle

Take three types of shot:

1. Overview shot — from 1–2 metres away, showing the damage in context. This helps us understand the surface type, colour and condition.
2. Close-up shot — from 20–30cm directly above the damage, showing the full extent of the chip or crack.
3. Raking angle shot — from the side at a low angle, showing the depth of the damage. This is often the most useful shot for assessment.

What to Include in the Frame

Include a coin or pen next to the damage to give a sense of scale. This is particularly helpful for chips where the photo alone can make it difficult to judge the actual size.

Sending the Photos

Send the photos by email to info@bathfixer.co.uk or via our contact form. Include a brief description of the surface material if you know it, and your postcode. We will come back to you with a fixed price, usually within a few hours during business hours.
