Limestone worktops are warm, elegant and increasingly popular in premium kitchens and bathrooms. They are also among the more vulnerable natural stone surfaces — softer than granite, porous and susceptible to etching from acidic substances.

Limestone Chip Repair

Limestone is a calcium carbonate stone, relatively soft compared to granite. Chips at edges and corners are common. Chip repair using colour-matched cementitious compounds — limestone chip repair is generally very successful due to the relatively uniform colour of most limestone types.

Limestone Etching

Like marble, limestone reacts with acids. Cleaning products, citrus, wine and tomato can all cause dull patches (etching) on a limestone worktop. Etch marks are polished out using diamond polishing pads.

Sealing After Repair

Limestone is porous and must be sealed regularly to prevent staining. After repair, we advise re-sealing the worktop to prevent recurrence.

Common Limestone Colours

Cream, ivory, beige, honey and grey limestone are all well within our colour matching capability. More unusual varieties require photo assessment.
